pablo and shoey return just in time for festival season with 4 new bits for the front of your box. e-man groove is a massive disco-rock jam that could have been sprung from the minds of dem idjut boys, with sympathy for the devil style percussion and wild guitar riffing driving the whole thing. blazing sunshine, meanwhile, is a funky, hammond organ led version of let the sunshine in, a guaranteed hands in the air moment when dropped at the right time. disco treat is more of a modern floor-burner, closer to straight production edit with a bouncing bassline and all manner of whacked out disco sounds in the mix, not to mention breakdowns for days. rounding off the package is some classic funky soul breaks - the lads tear a chunk off bettye lavettes soul tambourine to make play it, break it on down! as sampled on stezos golden era hip hop rocker to the max.

what do people like balihus daniel wang and royksopp have in common? they write nice things like this about our (not so) new talent kid on the block. polosh superproducer maximilian skiba! music from a very good young polish producer, warm chords, funky melodies, think bass and guitars by chic meeting a string section by beethoven, with a touch of italo-disco and almost flamenco-like soul daniel wang he produces very nice italo disco tracks, im a fan royksopp. shanghouse is an instant hit. i would say instant classic if this wasnt so daft and meaningless. if you just heard it 5 times and feel the need to put it on another time. thats shanghouse by max skiba. then theres a great remix by victor rosado and a great slightly diverse prins thomas edit of korsakot another track.

the km editions series, admirably helmed by the mysterious keyboard masher, has always been one of the more interesting re-edit/rework labels. past installments have touched on krautrock, disco, balearica, funk, italo and what can only be described as electronic oddities. this sixth volume offers up three more impressively remixed, overdubbed and reedited gems. theres naturally much to admire, not least the omd style woozy synth-pop of stolen shapes (stealing rework), which should tickle the fancy of anyone of a balearic disposition. the same can be said about the immersive, sun-kissed pianos and shuffling grooves of -astral playground. there s also a chunk of silly but, perversely, rather good french cod-reggae in the shape of le cod-, arguably our pick of a strong bunch.

radio bands radio rap the one and only single by a group of djs from the radio fantasy pirate station has long been an in-demand gem with italo-disco diggers and balearic heads alike. with original copies both hard to find and expensive (currently hovering around the l60 mark online), it s great to see archeo recordings giving the 1984 cut a much-needed reissue on heavyweight vinyl. the quirky vocal version a loose and funky disco-rap record with additional boogie synths and all italian vocals is accompanied by the superb instrumental version, which perfectly showcases danilo ciarchi s superb production.

emotional rescue starts a series of reissues from the carribean that will move minds and feet in equal measure. first up is the mento / ska star laurel aitken, here turning out 2 killer disco reggae jams with the crazily-sought after sexy boogie and a re-edit of hoochie coochie man.

six months after their last installment, shir khan and exploited drop another hot to trot collection of disco edits. as usual, there is much to excite, beginning with the familiar guitar solos, rhodes keys and dub disco pulse of antilopes *singing ghost* rework. death on the balcony keep up the reverb and delay-laden dub disco theme on *addict for your love*, whose rubbery groove, twinkling pianos and heady vocals have been expertly rearranged to fit house dancefloors. finally, matpat go loop crazy on the thumping disco house cut *only you* which sits somewhere between rahaan and soundstream. excellent stuff all round.

rob glassett aka fold has been playing his trade of quality house music for over 10 years now. with a seemingly bottomless record bag, his varied and soulful sets at panorama bar and on nts have seen him gain increasing recognition. his return to manmakemusic sums up what hes been perfecting over these last years: timeless house music. from the disco echoes of mr w00d to the dubbed-out thump of keif chugwin, this is one versatile ep which were proud to have on the imprint.

for the latest edition of the intriguing dessert islands discs re-edit series, the label has called upon the well-renowned scalpel talents of german-in-amsterdam marcel vogel, aka em vee. the double denim-sporting eccentric drops another gem in the shape of *white heat shake it out (edit)*, a bouncy and seductive disco chop-job that makes great use of the source materials bustling groove and steamy, spoken word vocals. on the flip, lesser-known re-edit heads papi del pancake and claude von reefer take up the challenge. their *gimme what you got* has a little more deep house shuffle, but retains the key instrumentation and feel of a sumptuous disco-soul jam.

paper disco are back on vinyl ahead of their forthcoming trash the wax vol. 2 and two totally exclusive tracks. leon sweet launches things with sunny bigler that has a moroder style bass and plaintive male vocal designed to make grown men cry on dance floors. italian master blaster shares the same side rocking his trademark edit chops with games whch will only be seeing the light of day on this wax. turn it over and yam who makes an appearance with natasha watts and paper tea boy chris massey on remix duties. its floor heavy 4/4 disco with modern production and dynamics that will slot in to any discerning box. the second exclusive comes from oslo young bucks de fantastiske to who offer up a more house take on disco. gimme sum dim sum has a shuffling backbeat, lush keys and chords to give it an organic garage feel that tips a wink to the best that new york has to offer.

the occasional (but always excellent) street edits series returns, this time with a trio of high-grade scalpel works from chicago re-edit hero rahaan. as usual, the source material is dusty and obscure, and the reworks revelatory. -city of disco- is in many ways typical of rahaan s work, with carefully cuts and loops being used to create a thumping, house style groove (admittedly one that pays due reverence to the source material). there s more of a celebratory, soulful feel about the impeccable -strung out-, which turns a little-known disco-soul gem into a huggable dancefloor classic. best of all, though, is -brighten you up-, which sits somewhere between later electrofunk and early house, a proto-proto gem, perhaps. either way, it s a killer.

is it balearic recordings latest is the reflextion ep from baldelli & rocca. 3 electronic disco bombs and a quality remix from ray mang. rteflextion is a driving synth italo disco stomper. mr mang adds a little acid and a touch odf house. side b s first track is a classically italo disco dancefloor gem lots of symth action a flappy percussion give this a hypnotic quality ready for some smoke drenched dancefloors. out to lunch is a more quircky take on the same theme. like a lost maxi 12 b-side pf an italian elctropop ftrack from the late 80 s. great ep.

having previously kept their re-edit series in-house, leeds-based crate-diggers joe s bakery have invited moton (aka london veterans diesel and dave jarvis) to deliver the latest release. those who ve followed the moton records inc series (active since the 90s) will know what to expect: expert re-rubs of obscure material that get the right balance between dancefloor chops and home listening selections. look out for the odd shuffle and electric piano solos of -moody blues-, the percussive early 80s, synth-heavy live disco brilliance of -zoo- (yes, it s definitely balearic) and the hazy, midtempo disco-funk of -bumps-. it s getting progressively hard to find worthwhile re-edit 12- singles, but this one s a genuine killer

former padded cell and bronx dogs man richard sen has made some great records in his time, and songs of pressure is up there with the best of them. joining the dots between murky dub disco, horror soundtracks and ebm, it layers spooky, delay-laden synthesizer motifs and wonky vocal samples atop a heavy dub rhythm and punchy machine drums. pals andrew weatherall and timothy j fairplay deliver a bongo-laden, dubbed-out revision (part wayward exotica, part humid balearic dub), while acca strips the track down to its nare bones for a ket-addled dub. its a fantastic 12inch, and limited to just 99 copies. you snooze, you lose.

those who have been following the cosmology series from its inception will no doubt be familiar with the ad hoc release schedule and will perhaps have grown accustomed to the diverse range of styles that their eps encompass. each one has trodden a different path in the pursuit of updating pivotal dancefloor memories and cosmology volume four is the most ambitious reworking to date. the choice for this instalments source material is a topical one as the influence here comes from herman sonny blount, better known as the free jazz pioneer sun ra.

anything eddie ruscha touches is generally worth checking, and this latest outing for lectric sands offshoot it’s a lectric world is no exception. ruscha kicks things off with the electric dub, an untypically funky fusion of his usual vivid psychedelics, exotic vocal samples, crunchy guitars and an undulating disco-rock groove. the original rub - all bubbling electronics, muted guitar licks and deep house warmth - adds a little balearic disco flavour, before ruscha returns to more familiar territory with the delay-laden and pleasingly out-there lectric dub. finally, he reaches for the marimbas on the pleasing dub, an afro-influenced blast of wide-eyed balearic sunshine complete with lilting pedal steel.
